Stone & Surface Cleaning Guide
Not all surfaces can be cleaned the same way. Using the wrong pressure or chemicals can cause permanent damage.
Here’s a simple guide to how different surfaces are safely cleaned.
Block Paving
✔ Safe for pressure washing
✔ Weed removal recommended before cleaning
✔ Re-sanding required after cleaning
Chemicals:
- Sodium Hypochlorite (hypo) – for algae and black spots
- Biocide – for long-term prevention
Concrete
✔ Durable surface
✔ Can handle higher pressure
✔ Ideal for deep cleaning
Chemicals:
- Hypo – effective for organic growth
- Degreasers – for oil stains
Indian Sandstone
⚠ Requires lower pressure
⚠ Can be damaged by aggressive cleaning
Chemicals:
- Light hypo mix (carefully applied)
- Biocide preferred for ongoing treatment
Porcelain
⚠ Low pressure only
⚠ Easy to mark if cleaned incorrectly
Chemicals:
- Specialist porcelain cleaners
- Mild solutions only
Tarmac / Asphalt
❌ High pressure can cause damage
✔ Soft washing recommended
Chemicals:
- Biocide – for moss and algae
- NO strong hypo mixes
Render
❌ Do NOT pressure wash
✔ Soft wash only
Chemicals:
- Biocide (primary treatment)
- Very light hypo mix (only when appropriate)
Natural Stone (General)
⚠ Varies depending on type
⚠ Always requires a tailored approach
Why This Matters
Using the wrong method can:
- Damage surfaces
